CHAIRMAN'S CORNER
Last December, the staff at Gallagher Charitable International Insurance Services enjoyed its annual Christmas party at a local restaurant. At the end of the meal, the waiter rolled out a cart and began to prepare the dessert for the evening. As the group watched, he started peeling and slicing several bananas and tossed them into a shallow frying pan, adding fresh-squeezed lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, and extract to the pan, which sizzled over a flame. After the mix was finished, it was poured over vanilla ice cream, and everybody in the group was able to enjoy this treat.
Several months later, my wife and I dined at a crêperie in Europe. A lady greeted us warmly at the door, led us to our seats, and soon took our orders. When I happened to glance through the kitchen window, I saw her son, the chef, preparing crêpes from scratch.
In each of these experiences, it was easy to taste the difference that freshly prepared ingredients had made. We appreciated the waiter’s and chef’s hard work and use of fresh ingredients, rather than pulling pre-packaged food from the freezer and heating it in the microwave. In addition, the personalized, friendly service made each meal even more enjoyable.
I tell you these stories because they remind me of the way that we strive to “prepare from scratch” our insurance programs at Gallagher Charitable International Insurance Services. Since 1980, we have prepared distinct plans for many of our missionary clients because everyone’s insurance needs are different. Since we are an independent agent, we are able to choose from multiple insurance companies, each of which offers different rates and coverage options; these ingredients are unique to every missionary and sending organization.
